The Hoax by Paul Clayton #Review #Blogtour

Synopsis

Meet Frankie Baxter. She’s trying to make ends meet and keep the boat afloat for her three kids.

She’s harassed, sometimes impatient. but she’s a

fabulous mum. So imagine her distress when Henry, her youngest child, goes missing …

Henry returns safety accompanied by a stranger, Cora, a fairy godmother who starts to change the Baxter family’s lives in the best of ways. So why do things suddenly start going wrong? Is Cora fulfilling their dreams• or is she the start of a nightmare?

Funny, terrifying and a real page-turner, The Hoax puts a whole new slant on psychological thrillers.

My Review

The Hoax is an absolute can’t put down read, it’s written in a multi timeline each chapter alternates between Frankie, a down to earth Mum of 3 children and Cora a very kooky character who befriended Cara’s youngest son when he ran away to complete a challenge a friend had set him.

The chapters also alternate between Lottie and ‘little girl’, by contrast to the chapters told from Franke and Cora’s view these chapters have a chilled feel to them.

I really enjoy a story that has you guessing throughout as to the possible outcomes, Paul is a master at this and I changed my mind multiple times as the story unfolded to peoples intentions, it still didn’t prepare me for the ending though. The descriptive of each character bring them to life and turn them in to real people.

Reading The Hoax for me was similar to watching a psychological film with a cushion next to you that you can hide your face behind when you think a scary bit is about to happen. It’s a thrilling, fast paced and total edge of your seat read that gets your heart racing.

The Hoax needs to be on everyone’s ‘To read list’
