What if the one thing that kept you together was breaking you apart?
All Linda wants to do is sleep. She won’t look at her husband. She can’t stand her daughter. And she doesn’t want to have this baby. Having this baby means moving on, and she just wants to go back to before. Before their family was torn apart, before the blame was placed.
Alienated by their own guilt and struggling to cope, the Sadler family unravels. They grow up, grow apart, never talking about their terrible secret.
That is until Linda’s daughter finds out she’s pregnant. Before she brings another Sadler into the world, Bea needs to know what happened twenty-five years ago. What did they keep from her? What happened that couldn’t be fixed?
A devastating mistake, a lifetime of consequences. How can you repair something broken if pieces are missing?
Firstly I’d like to thank Agora Books and Laura Pearson got including me in this fantastic Blog Tour
When I was sent this amazing book included was a lovely little organza bag. It was filled with goodies, a teabag for ‘before’ a pack of tissues for ‘during’ and a bar of chocolate for ‘after’ boy did I need all three!
You were also warned that you would ‘ugly cry’ and yes I did. I sobbed and actually couldn’t stop.
Missing Pieces is a beautiful, deep and thought provoking novel.
Part one tells the story about Linda,Tom and Esme immediately after the death of three year old Phoebe. All three blame themselves for a part in her death. The reader isn’t exactly sure how she dies, it’s hinted at but not confirmed.
Laura depicts beautifully the struggle each character is going through. It’s heartbreaking to imagine how Linda, Phoebe’s Mum is feeling. She can’t function, she’s pregnant but doesn’t now want the baby, she feels unable to love her seven year old daughter Esme and she can’t understand how Tom her husband can be acting so normal.
Tom on the other hand is struggling but is trying to keep it together for the sake of Esme. Then Bea is born and things fall apart further.
Part two is twenty six years later Bea has just found out she’s pregnant. She wants to know the truth about Phoebe’s death.
Missing Pieces touched my heart and lingered in my mind long after I read the final page. I couldn’t imagine how Linda felt, I did occasionally want to reach inside the book and shake her. Make her realise she still had a precious little girl right in front of her who also needed her love.
Missing Pieces is far from all doom and gloom, reading how the family finally put their lives back together was heart warming.
This is a truly amazing read and definitely one I won’t forget. I wait eagerly for more from Laura.
